Coating cuts your costs Reduce your production costs Coating is often used to improve cutting tools – with good reason. The right coating can contribute to considerably optimising production, thus ensuring substantial savings. The Kyocera Unimerco manufacturing sites have in-house coating centres and highly skilled personnel to ensure optimum surface treatment. We optimise the performance of a wide range of tool types by applying a variety of coatings. Our coating types and their key properties are described below. C1 C3 C5 C7 C8 C10 Flexible coating for HSS drills and knives The C1 coating is characterised by high flexibility and moderate hardness. It can be used on HSS drills for metal machining, especially when instability is an issue. Moreover the C1 coating is suitable for a wide range of knife applications for plastic and rubber cutting. Universal coating C3 is the universal coating suitable for most applications. The C3 coating is suitable for carbide drilling and milling tools for metal machining where the heat generation is relatively high. Low-temperature coating The C5 coating is used mainly on temperature-sensitive workpieces, as the coating temperature is reduced to approx. 250° C. The coating is used widely in the woodworking industry, for example for blade bodies (to prevent burn marks) and for finger jointing tools. Moreover the C5 is used for cutting operations in copper. Nanocomposite coating C7 is extremely suitable for dry machining in metal. The coating is very heat resistant, maintaining stability and superior features up to 1200° C. Furthermore, it has a unique hardness of 45 GPa. Exceptionally hard and tough coating The C8 coating combines high hardness with good toughness. The fine surface and the low chemical affinity make the C8 ideal for machining aluminium with low silicon content. The C8 coating is optimized for woodworking applications where it delivers amazing results. Furthermore, the high toughness makes the C8 coating very suitable for HSS tools. New universal coating with impressively high performance The new C10 coating has an impressively high and stable performance in most materials; Hardened steel, Stainless steel, Cast iron, Nickel alloys, Titanium etc. The improved properties and high wear resistance helps to reduce edge wear and fractures. C10 coating for longer tool life and improved surface finish.
