User guide for EQS tools Congratulations on your new EQS tool. Please read carefully the below user guide before you start using the tool. Generally: • EQS tools have only been tested with Kyocera Unimerco tools. The intended and optimum performance can only be guaranteed when using EQS tools with the correct Kyocera Unimerco tools. • EQS tools are designed for burnishing MDF boards. • EQS tools must be mounted in Tribos S holder or constructed with integrated body. EQS tools must never be mounted in Hydro or Tribos R holder (due to the risk of loss of clamping force when exposed to heat). • When replacing tools and when handling EQS tools, the operator should be aware that the tools may be very hot. • The operator must be aware of the effect of heat on the spindle. We recommend only using CNC mill with water-cooled spindle or at least an air-cooled spindle with thermal fuse. It is always the responsibility of the customer/operator that the spindle does not overheat. Excessive heat could damage the spindle bearings. • The customer/operator must be aware of the effect of heat on the workpiece. The recommended maximum temperature of the EQS tool is 120°C. When the EQS tool rotates, it must not be in contact with the workpiece without feed of the tool or workpiece. It is always the customer’s responsibility to ensure that the workpiece does not overheat. In case of overheating, slag can burn into the tool. If this happens, the tool must be cleaned (Scotch-Brite can be used). In extreme situations, the EQS tool can ignite the MDF board. Adjustment instructions: • Before burnishing is started, it is important to check the distance to the workpiece to be burnished. Next, turn on the machine and start the burnishing process. Make sure to start the burnishing at least 0.1 mm from the workpiece. The distance is best measured with feeler gauges (item no. 957062). • For a start, the distance must be adjusted according to the measured distance. Subsequently, the adjustment is carried out with 1-2/10 mm (0.1-0.2 mm) at a time, until there is a visible effect on the workpiece. • When there is contact between workpiece and burnisher, adjustment must be carried out with 2-5/100 mm (0.02-0.05 mm) at a time. • When the burnisher has reached the normal operating temperature of 100-120°C, extra fine adjustment may be carried out. • The feed rate of the EQS tool will typically be 4-12m/min. Optimum feed rate can only be determined when the operating temperature has been reached. The rate depends on the quality of the MDF board and the desired result. • The peripheral speed of the EQS tool (“V”) must be 10-15 m/sek. • RPM of the EQS tool is calculated using this formula: Example: V = 15 m/sek. diameter = Ø84 mm. = 3410 RPM • A peripheral speed of 15 m/min must be selected until the operating temperature is reached. Afterwards, RPM can be decreased so that the max operating temperature is not exceeded. • The heat is generated through friction between the EQS tool and the workpiece, and varies according to the following 3 parameters: o RPM of the EQS tool (peripheral speed) o Pressure on the MDF board o Time the EQS tool is in engagement Therefore, it is important to constantly pay attention to the operating temperature, which must not exceed 120°C at any time. • This user guide is, to the best of our knowledge and belief, correct at the time of issue. The information serves only as a guide for safe handling and use, and should not be considered a guarantee or quality specification. 10-02-2016, B 40-08-04-30, v1
